The Advancement Plan

Cub Scouts advance through the program by grade level, moving from Lion through Arrow of Light. We believe advancement is about personal growth, not high-pressure testing. Our leaders and families work together to support every scout's unique journey.

Ranks are tied to your child’s grade in school.

Most requirements are completed during regular den and pack activities.

You’ll always know what’s next with simple checklists and leader support.

Lion (Kindergarten)

At this level, our youngest scouts explore through game-based learning. It's about 'doing your best' while having fun.

  • We meet once  a month at your home or a local park.
  • We play games, go on nature hikes, and learn about our community.
  • A parent or guardian stays and plays along with the scout every time.

Full rank details are available in the rank handbook and from your den leader.

Bear
(3rd Grade)

At this level, the focus shifts to more advanced woodcraft and service. Scouts learn that helping others is key.

  • We meet 1-2 times per month to earn loops and prepare for big family campouts.
  • We learn pocketknife safety, cook over a fire, and try woodwork.
  • Families are encouraged to join pack ceremonies and help at events.

Full rank details are available in the rank handbook and from your den leader.

Ranks by Grade

Each Cub Scout rank lines up with a grade in school. Here’s what to expect at each level.

  • Parents participate in all meetings to help their child discover new things.

Awards & Recognition

Your scout is recognized often throughout the year. We celebrate every small step and big win with awards that build their confidence and show them how much they’ve grown.

Adventure Loops & Pins

These are earned throughout the year for trying new things. From building robots to learning knot-tying, scouts get loops for their belts or pins for their hats as they finish each mini-adventure.

Pack Traditions

We have special ceremonies to celebrate your child’s hard work. These rank celebrations and end-of-year awards make every scout feel proud of what they’ve done and who they are becoming.

Religious Emblems

These are optional awards earned through a family’s own faith community. It is a wonderful way for families to connect their scouting journey with their personal beliefs and traditions.

Summer Awards

Scouting doesn’t stop when school ends! Families who take part in summer activities and campouts can earn special patches to show for their warm-weather adventures and outdoor fun.
