Building Character Through Service

Community service is a core pillar of the Cub Scout program. For Pack 289, it is about teaching our scouts that they are part of a larger community and have the power to make it better.

Food Drives

Supporting Local Families

Pack 289 regularly partners with Prosper area food banks to help our neighbors in need. These recurring food drives are a cornerstone of our service calendar, teaching Scouts about food security, compassion, and the collective impact of small acts of kindness. While projects vary year to year—ranging from holiday meal collections to school-supply pantry drives—our commitment to showing up for our community remains evergreen. It's a wonderful way for our Scouts to learn that we are all part of a larger 'Pack' that looks out for one another.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

Honoring the Fallen

Every December, our pack joins thousands of volunteers to place wreaths on the graves of our nation’s veterans. It’s a powerful moment of reflection and respect for our scouts. This recurring project is a cornerstone of our community service program; while specific tasks or cemetery locations may vary slightly from year to year based on local needs, the core mission of showing gratitude remains a key lesson for every Pack 289 family.

Scouting For Food

As a national BSA initiative, Scouting For Food is one of Pack 289's most impactful annual efforts. Each year, our Scouts distribute collection bags throughout Prosper neighborhoods and return the following week to gather non-perishable donations. This recurring project culminates in a major delivery to local food pantries, teaching the Scouts about civic responsibility and the power of neighbors helping neighbors. While the collection dates shift slightly each season, the mission remains constant: helping to fight hunger in our own hometown.

KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL

Stewards of the Earth

Pack 289 takes pride in caring for our local Prosper parks and trails. Through our partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful, we host regular cleanup days to keep our playgrounds and community spaces healthy for everyone to enjoy. These are recurring projects throughout the scouting year; while the specific locations and dates may shift annually to meet the areas of greatest need, our commitment to environmental responsibility remains constant. It is a fantastic way for our scouts to learn civic duty while having fun outdoors with their den and families.

How to Participate

Joining our recurring service projects is a great way for your Scout to learn the value of helping others. We make the process simple so families can jump in whenever their schedule allows.

Signing Up

We primarily coordinate through the Parent Hub and sign-up forms sent via the Pack newsletter. Keep an eye on your email for the specific layout and location details of each project.

Time Commitment

Most projects are 1-2 hours on a Saturday morning. While some annual events might take longer, we always clearly state the expected window so you can plan accordingly.

Sibling Policy

Siblings are almost always welcome to join in the service effort! Many of our projects, like park cleanups and food drives, are excellent opportunities for the whole family to serve together.
